Barcelona received an offer from Serie A for the unpopular defender
Barcelona could have more options to offload full-back Eric Garcia before the end of January transfer window amid the approach of ambitious Como from Serie A.
After starting a run of La Liga games in September, Garcia has struggled to regain a place in Hansi Flick’s preferred line-up since recovering from an injury lay-off almost two months ago.
The versatile 24-year-old has already been the subject of interest from Girona, where he spent last season on loan, and is reportedly willing to pay up to €10m (£8.5m).
Girona failed to maintain last season’s success, facing inevitable elimination from the Champions League, but the Catalan club is still in European competition for 2025/26.
Competition for Garcia’s signature now comes from Italy. Fabrizio Romano writes about Com’s offer worth 7 million euros, although Gianluca Di Marzio amounts to a slightly higher figure of 10 million euros.
Como, backed by Italian football’s richest ownership group, have risen up the table in recent weeks thanks to improved results since Christmas, after initially struggling following promotion.
Cesc Fabregas’ side lost summer signing Raphael Varane at the start of the campaign, with the French veteran opting to retire after injury, but continuing to work behind the scenes as a member of the board. Garcia also has experience in English football, playing 35 times for Manchester City at the start of his senior career, and could be a shrewd addition if a deal is struck.
Barcelona are over the worst of their financial woes but still have a wage bill to think about if they are to continue their summer spending spree to rebuild their squad, with Manchester United in the works Marcus Rashford among their expensive targets.
