In a carefree moment during the opening day of the fifth Test match between Australia and India at the Sydney Cricket Ground, an Indian fan took the opportunity to tease the Australian opener Konstas himself with a poster of Virat Kohli. The playful exchange came amid a memorable shoulder incident during the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Virat Kohli vs Sam Konstas: Fans keep rivalry alive
Although the fourth test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 long over, the tensions between Kohli and Konstas from the first day of that match remained fresh in the minds of cricket fans. During the early stages of Australia’s innings in the Melbourne Test, Kohli and Konstas had a heated exchange. The incident took place after the 10th over when Kohli, while passing the Australian opener, touched shoulders with him. This physical contact seemed to anger Konstas, who did not hesitate to express his displeasure. A heated exchange of words ensued, with the referees on the field quickly stepping in to calm the situation and restore order.
Despite the Melbourne Test being a thing of the past, the rivalry between Kohli and Konstas is still the talk of the fans. On the first day of the fifth Test in Sydney, the incident erupted again when an Indian fan, who was watching the match from the stands, held up a large poster of Kohli. A poster with the words “King Kohli” was aimed at Konstas, with the apparent intention of poking fun at Australia’s opener. Konstas greeted the antics of the fans with a smile, which playfully responded with a thumbs-up gesture, confirming the teasing in a good mood.

India’s first innings: Tough day for the visitors
On the field, India’s batting efforts on the first day of the Sydney Test were far from ideal. The visitors were dismissed for a total of 185 runs in their first innings, with the wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant emerging as the top scorer with 40 runs. Despite Pant’s valiant efforts, India’s batting order struggled to build partnerships and Australia’s bowlers dominated proceedings. Australia, in their reply, found themselves in a challenging position by the end of Day 1. After three overs, they scored only 9 runs for the loss of 1 wicket, trailing India by 176 runs.
