Arsenal could advance in the search for a Premier League player soon, as a manager Mikel Arteta clearly shows his attitude behind the scenes.

Speaking at his final pre-match press conference ahead of their clash with Brighton on Saturday afternoon, Arteta said Arsenal are open for business this month in a bid to improve the squad.

The Spaniard has repeatedly suggested that new faces are a real possibility this month, having previously stated that January is a serious opportunity to give his side the best possible chance of winning the elusive Premier League title.

Arteta is sticking to that stance, with a number of key Arsenal players currently sidelined with injuries. Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Raheem Sterling and Bukayo Saka are all out, with the latter expected to be unavailable until Marchwhich is a serious blow.

However, while the Gunners boss refuses to rule out new arrivals, he also says he is focused on getting the best out of his current crop.

“I don’t know, again because the focus is on the players we have,” he said Arteta on the January signings for Arsenal.

“When there is something on the market that we can afford and we believe will have a real impact on the team, we have to be open to that possibility. We have the option to change the squad in the windows, but at the moment the focus is on what we have.”

Arsenal are believed to be targeting Wolves star Matheus Cunha this window, but Molineux’s side are also looking to tie down the Brazilian on new terms in a bid to fend off elite suitors such as the north Londoner.

As a result, attention could turn to other attacking targets, with one striker far more likely to be available is the Brighton starlet Evan Ferguson.

According to GiveMeSport, West Ham, Fulham and Arteta’s side are all keen on the Republic of Ireland international this month, but that’s not all.

The report suggests that three sides, including Arsenal, could make “potential moves” for him “in the coming days”. However, Brighton are prepared to play them down until later in the window as they continue to consider whether to give the go-ahead for his departure should his injury problems continue.
