Trying to add another future star to the growing list of young talent, Arsenal have reportedly approached the signing of a contract with the 17-year-old forward for the first time Mikel Arteta this month.

Whether it’s an option like Mohammed Kudus or, indeed, a younger star, Arsenal certainly need attacking reinforcements in the January transfer window following the news of Bukaya Saka’s hamstring injury. Potentially without their star player for the next two months, the Gunners must discover a new attacking spark from open play rather than maintain their reliance on set pieces.
To wander into Premier League title race, Arsenal can afford to get things wrong in the January transfer window and must ensure they don’t allow Liverpool to enjoy an easy stroll to glory.
The Gunners are not just focusing on the current season though, they are firmly set on the future and have signed a young player who could play an important role in that.
According to The Scottish Sun, Arsenal have made the first move to sign Evan Mooney from St. Mirren in a move that would see the 17-year-old choose the Emirates over St James’ Park and Newcastle United.

Still an incredibly young player, Mooney impressed with the first-team opportunities he was given at St. Mirren could be followed this season and now by a number of young players emerging to play a role in Arteta’s side.
Ethan Nwaneri and Miles Lewis-Skelly are two more recent players who have benefited from Arsenal’s journey into the senior team, and Mooney could be next.
Mooney is one to watch
One goal and one assist in four Scottish Premiership appearances so far this season, Mooney looks destined to become a key man at St. Mirren before moving on to bigger things elsewhere. Whether that included a stop at the Emirates remains to be seen, but there is no doubt that north London is the land of opportunity for young players.
The teenager could also solve Arsenal’s biggest problems, given that he can play both as a striker and as a right winger to ultimately give Arteta a goalscoring solution and natural cover for Saka.
The Spaniard has already suffered the consequences once for failing to take advantage of an alternative to the England national team week in and week out and it is not something he wants to suffer again anytime soon.
With a long month still ahead of us, it will certainly be interesting to see if clubs will wait to pounce on Mooney or indeed go on strike this month. As Newcastle and Arsenal compete, he is one to watch.
