An Israeli air strike has killed at least 10 people in southern Gaza, medics say Reuters

CAIRO (Reuters) – An Israeli airstrike killed at least 10 Palestinians in a tent camp sheltering displaced families in the southern Gaza Strip early on Thursday, medics said.

Ten people, including women and children, were killed in a tent in Al-Mawasi, a designated humanitarian area in western Khan Younis, according to doctors.

15 people were wounded, medics added. The Israeli military did not immediately comment.

Gaza Police Chief Director Mahmoud Salah and his assistant Hussam Shahwan were killed in an airstrike, Hamas-run Al-Aqsa TV reported.

Israel has killed more than 45,500 Palestinians in the Gaza war, according to health officials in the enclave. Most of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents have been displaced, and much of the tiny coastal strip is in ruins.

The war was triggered by a Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, in which 1,200 people were killed and another 251 people taken hostage in Gaza, according to Israeli figures.
