‘An apology is not enough’ – Amad Diallo sends heartfelt message to Man Utd fans
Manchester United winger Amad Diallo admitted that “an apology is not enough” in an emotional address to fans at the end of 2024.
Amad enjoyed his first consistent run for United towards the end of the calendar year after previously struggling to come into his own, racking up ten goals and assists in the last two months.
But those promising individual performances came against the backdrop of team struggles. United lost five times in December alone and conceded 18 goals match the unwanted club record.
United’s run of form even saw new head coach Ruben Amorim, whose honeymoon period was limited to just two games before the harsh reality set in, admit R-word: relegation.
On New Year’s Eve, the day after a modest performance in home defeat against Newcastle UnitedAmad addressed his 600,000 followers on Xu, formerly Twitter.
“A very difficult year, apologies are not enough,” he told fans directly.
“… but you have supported us and continued to do so all this time… thank you.”
Amorim is trying to implement new methods and a whole new tactical system in the middle of a season where almost every week is a three-game week, meaning the opportunity to really work things out in training is almost non-existent.
Things won’t get any easier either, with a short trip along the M62 to Liverpool to face the league leaders on Sunday. The reverse fixture at Old Trafford in September ended in a 3-0 defeat, while just two years ago United they were beaten 7-0 at Anfield.
