Russian sliders of Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, who won the title of couples at the 1994 World Cup and competed twice at the Winter Olympics, were on the plane, said Kremlin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Thursday.

“Unfortunately, we see that this sad information is confirmed. There were other fellow citizens. Today they are from Washington. We are sorry to send condolences to families and friends who lost those fellow citizens who died in a plane crash,” he said.

The International Skating Union said she was “deeply shocked” because of the incident.
