Adam Gilchrist, Michael Vaughan assess the impact of Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah in BGT
Former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist and former England captain Michael Vaughan rated the performances of Indian cricket team’s superstars Jasprit Bumrah and Virat Kohli in the recent blockbuster Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia.
Virat Kohli had a forgettable Australian tour, amassing just 190 runs in nine innings at an average of 23.75 and rallied behind while playing out of position in all eight of his dismissals as India lost the five-match Test series 1-3 to the hosts at the beginning of this month.

However, Jasprit Bumrah had a remarkable outing, finishing the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy with 32 wickets in nine innings as he was unable to bowl in the final innings of the Sydney Test due to back spasms. He was named player of the series for his incredible bowling performance in Australia.
Days after Australia won the BGT by a 3-1 margin against India after a decade, Adam Gilchrist gave a glowing review of Virat Kohli’s performance in the Test series. The legendary cricketer praised Kohli for his all-round performance in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia.
Adam Gilchrist called Kohli “the complete package” because of his unmatched charisma and ability to win over the crowd. The Australian legend rated the former India captain 7.5 out of 10 for his ability to bring excitement and “eyeballs” to the game, referring to his on-field drama with the Aussies.
He is an all-round package: Adam Gilchrist on Virat Kohli
Adam Gilchrist said on the ‘Club Prairie Fire’ YouTube channel: “We said it; he is an all-round package; he brings his eyes to the game. So yeah, 7.5/10.”
Furthermore, Gilchrist praised Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah for his bowling skills. He claimed that Bumrah would have smashed batting legends like Sir Don Bradman in his prime. The former Australian wicket-keeper boldly claimed that Bumrah would have knocked out Bradman in just a few balls.
Gilchrist remarked, “I’m not judging him; no number matches what he is in world sport. I’m out [trinity]seriously. He would be at Bradman’s peak in terms of balls. It would be much further south than 99 [average] on which he sits [if they faced each other]. I would give Donald 35 from Bumrah. You can’t get a high enough reward for him.”
Michael Vaughan hails Jasprit Bumrah as the “GOAT” and calls Virat Kohli an entertainment package
Meanwhile, in the same discussion, former England captain Michael Vaughan pointed out that Virat Kohli entertained the fans with his passion and antics on the field. Vaughan gave Kohli a solid 7/10 for entertaining the fans with his energy and interaction with the crowd and the Australian players.
Michael Vaughan said on the ‘Club Prairie Fire’ podcast: “Virat brought the barge, the sandpaper and got the crowd together. He probably ran at Konstas faster than I’ve seen anyone run at a player in the history of the game. I will give it 7/10 for the entertainment that Virat Kohli brings.”
In the end, the Englishman hailed Jasprit Bumrah as the “GOAT” and rated him a perfect 10/10. Vaughan signed off saying: “10/10. Well, he’s good as Gilly called him. The greatest athlete of all time.”
