A rematch between Tevin Farmer and William Zepeda is being prepared
Tevin Farmer revealed today that he is in talks for a rematch with undefeated lightweight contender William Zepeda.
Former IBF super bantamweight champion Farmer (33-7-1, 8 KOs) gets a second chance against Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs) after losing a 10-round split decision to him on November 16 at Latino Night. card in Riyadh.
Farmer – against Zeped II
If it goes to 12 rounds, Farmer could be knocked out as he looked exhausted by the eighth round from the hard body shots Zepeda was hitting him with in that fight.
The 34-year-old Farmer looked exhausted and ready to be stopped. He stayed on his feet as Zepeda focused mostly on landing to the body thanks to the head movement Tevin used. He was elusive but couldn’t make Zepeda miss the body. That’s where he lost the fight.
Farmer and some fans felt he had done enough to deserve to win that fight. The judges scored 95-94 for Farmer, 95-94 for Zepeda and 95-94 for Farmer. Boxing News 24 scored it 9-1 for Zepeda. It seems the referees didn’t take Zepeda’s body kick into account when scoring. They only focused on headshots.
Farmer won the fourth from a quick knockdown that he scored with a left hand that caught Zepeda coming forward. But except for the fourth, Zepeda dominated every round with his powerful jabs, pressure and body work.
Zepeda-Farmer Punch Statistics
- William Zepeda: 259 of 778 shots for 33.3%. Of the 259 shots fired by Zepeda, 90 were to the body.
- Tevin Farmer: 193 of 589 shots for 32.9%. He delivered 45 blows to the body.
The rematch is seen as a busy fight for Zepeda to warm up for a fight against the winner of the February 22 clash between WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson and Floyd Schofield.
Zepeda probably would have fought Shakur next had he not suffered a hand injury. This spoiled his plans for the world title.
We are in negotiations for a rematch with Zepeda. ZEPEDA, don’t stay away from this smoke😤
