A New Orleans suspect started a fire at a rental apartment

The driver behind the deadly terrorist New Year’s attack in New Orleans set fire to his rental property in an attempt to destroy evidence of bomb-making before the attack, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) said.

ua joint statement On Friday, agencies revealed they believe 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar started a small fire in the hallway of his Airbnb rental before the attack and “strategically placed accelerants throughout the home in an attempt to destroy it and other evidence of his crime.” But they said the fire extinguished itself before it spread to other rooms.

The smoldering fire allowed the FBI to recover evidence from the Airbnb rental, including “precursors to bomb-making materials and a privately made device suspected to be a rifle silencer,” the agencies said.
