Today on Sky Sports Racing: Tyrrhenian Sea stars in Quebec Stakes at Lingfield on New Year’s Eve | Racing news

Lingfield kicks off the New Year party with the Listed Quebec Stakes, plus jumping action from Uttoxeter, all live on Sky Sports Racing.

1.44 Lingfield – Last year’s Tyrrhenian Sea winners take on Royal Champion

Roger Varian Tyrrhenian Sea was successful in the Above BetUK Quebec Stakes (1.44) 12 months ago and now it’s only rated 1lb more.

He ran a race in the Churchill Stakes at Newcastle last month – the same race he used as a prep last year – behind Foxes after 266 days out and is sure to be close to Jack Mitchell in the saddle.

Royal champion he was the winner of the Wolferton Stakes in 2023 when trained by Varian and has since been in Australia, finishing a convincing second in the Crystal Mile, and is now with the excellent Karl Burke. He could take any beating if he gets back to his best.

Pride of America is coming back from wind surgery and Amy Murphy will be hoping she can build on her efforts in Newcastle earlier this month to win here.

Old Toon Loon (Tom Dascombe), Fantasy Believer (Ed Walker) and Lia Rose (Rae Guest) complete the lineup.

1.14 Lingfield – Kylian’s title field of eight revitalized

Kylian can be a tricky horse to correct, but Archie Watson seems to have found the key to him with the use of blinkers. He ran a fine second behind a consistent guy in Equilateral and the Extra winnings with BetUK Acca Club Handicap (1.14) looks like a good race to get his head back.

Richard Hughes’ Boatman of the Thames he could only manage seventh at Wolves last time out, but he is unbeaten at his beloved Lingfield and it would be no surprise to see him return and maintain that record.

Bedford Flyer is another who could run a big race after returning to form last time at Southwell. He is a multiple track winner and his 92 rating may not stop him having previously won with a 94.

Existing he has been an expensive horse to follow recently but has been knocking on the door and is now £14 off his last win, although that was in February 2022.

2.14 Lingfield – Monsieur Beaulieu and Zandita compete in the trappy handicap

The Win £1M with BetMGM’s Golden Goals Handicap (2.14) looks competitive with several who have a good chance of winning this award.

The advantage is with Monsieur Beaulieu who stayed strong to finish second at Southwell. Interestingly, Ross Coakley takes the lead after impressive wins over course and distance earlier in the month and the six-year-old is likely to progress further.

They raced lightly Zandita a big danger to win on debut here and back it up with a nice second at Wolverhampton after a gap of 355 days.

Stuart Williams Revolutionize was last seen finishing a solid second in a competitive event at Wolverhampton and drops his mark from an unchanged mark for Marco Ghiani who gets along well with him.

Watch every race from Lingfield and Uttoxeter live on Sky Sports Racing on Tuesday 31st December.
