Ruben Amorim makes worrying ‘survival’ admission after Man Utd fall to Wolves
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim admitted the players must focus on “survival” rather than qualifying for European football.
Boxing Day seen United lost to defeat 2-0 at the hands of relegation-threatened Wolverhampton Wanderers, leaving them 14th in the Premier League table and closer to the relegation zone than the top four.
After the game, Amorim was asked if he would United I can still dream of European football, but a new head coach, who warned fans that a “storm” was coming soon.he insisted that the team was simply fighting for their lives at the moment.
“We have to work on a lot of things at our club, on and off the pitch, so let’s focus on every game, every time,” he replied. “We have to use every minute of training and improve the team.
“I manage [the squad] but I didn’t train [the players]. They need time for training, they completely change the way they play, it is really difficult for them to convey all the information to the staff. When you don’t have results, it’s even harder to believe them.
“At this moment we just have to survive and win some time to work on the team. We already knew that. I started this job, with a team, a new idea, no time to train, with a lot of difficult games. It’s a long way. We have to fight against these bad moments, we also have to win the players.
Amorim admitted he has “no idea” how long it will take him to break through to the United squad, simply asking fans for patience.
“An idea takes time,” he stressed. “I told you before that this will be a difficult moment and we are far from the end of this moment and that’s it. We have to continue and focus on the next game.
“I have no idea [how long this will take]. I have no idea. Instead of trying to figure out how long it will take, just one day at a time. Progress, try to see the videos, use every minute of training and try to get some points because that’s really important at the moment.”
