Leicester City were narrowly beaten 2-0 by an unconvincing Manchester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Both sides limped into their last match of 2024 in miserable form. While Leicester mustered just one win in their previous 11 games, Manchester City he had an even worse record of one win in 13.
The desperate lack of confidence running through the defending champions was evident throughout the contest. Leicester looked a threat on every limited occasion they had in possession, but fell behind after 21 minutes.
Savinho was on hand to grab the rebound from long range Phil Foden effort, ending his wait for a first goal for City in his 24th appearance for the club.
Rather than falter, Leicester were buoyed by City’s first goal, improving on their brilliant start with an even more impressive 50-minute spell. Facundo Buonanotte and Jamie Vardy wasted tantalizing glances at goal as City nervously held on to an ever-thinning lead.
Erling Haaland settled the nerves with a header to make it 2-0, rising above a scrambling Leicester back line to nod home Savinho’s cross. However, City’s problems were preoccupied by the fact that Haaland’s goal in the 74th minute was his team’s first goal of the second half.
