Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool gave the transfer to Martin Zubimendi, the sporting director of Real Sociedad
Real Sociedad sporting director Roberto Olabe has confidently revealed that he expects in-demand midfielder Martin Zubimendi to stay at San Sebastian despite transfer the interest of a number of Premier League clubs.
ArsenalManchester City and Liverpool are credited with casting admiring glances in Zubimendi’s direction. Arne Sloto’s Premier League leaders came closest to winning the Euro 2024 champions in the summer just for the 25-year-old decide against moving on from his boyhood club.
Zubimendi was reportedly appointed at City’s shortlist of January transfer targetswhile Arsenal are also thought to be tracking the immensely talented player who boasts a relatively modest €60m (£50m) buyout clause.
Every La Liga player must have a release clause in their contract, but technically it can only be activated by the individual concerned. This puts all the power in the player’s hands.
Olabe is convinced that Zubimendi will not push for a transfer in the upcoming winter window.
“There is little peace about the clauses, but during all this time Martin has shown us himself that the above clauses are intentions,” the sporting director told the gathered media.
“To date we have already seen the behavior that has been demonstrated, I don’t expect that we will have fears in January.”
Whether Zubimendi will still be at La Real until the start of next season is far less certain. Olabe, for what it’s worth, will move on. The highly rated sporting director is stepping down from his post in June and is understood to be a target for Arsenal.
