West Ham have confirmed the departure of manager Julen Lopetegui
West Ham United have confirmed they have parted ways with manager Julen Lopetegui.
The Hammers opted to part ways with David Moyes in the summer in favor of a high-profile signing, but the former Spain and Real Madrid boss Lopetegui has won just seven of his 22 matches during his six months in charge.
Lopetegui’s future was first thrown into question at the start of December after a miserable start to the campaign, only for a 2-1 win over fellow Wolverhampton Wanderers to buy him more time to try and turn things around.
Since then, however, West Ham’s only win has come against bottom-placed Southampton, and Lopetegui’s last two games have been 5-0 and 4-1 by Liverpool and Manchester City respectively.
“West Ham United can confirm that head coach Julen Lopetegui has left the club today,” the statement read.
“The first half of the 2024/25 season was not in line with the Club’s ambitions and therefore the Club has taken measures in line with its goals.
“The club can confirm that Assistant Head Coach Pablo Sanz, Head of Performance Oscar Caro, Head Analyst Juan Vicente Peinado, Fitness Coach Borja De Alba and Technical Coach Edu Rubio have also left with immediate effect.
“The board would like to thank Julen and his staff for their hard work during their time with the Hammers and wish them every success in the future.”
West Ham Lopetegui is expected to be replaced by former Chelsea and Brighton manager Graham Potter, who could take charge in time for Friday’s FA Cup clash with Aston Villa.
