Newcastle chiefs are making a fresh move to replace first-team international James Trafford
Newcastle United they are now reportedly showing renewed interest in signing the “outstanding” player in the January transfer window, replacing the outgoing player in the process.
Newcastle transfer news
The Magpies have been linked with a variety of possible new signings in recent weeks, including the Paris Saint-Germain winger Marco Asensio. The former Real Madrid player could be looking to leave his current club this month, with Paul Mitchell and Eddie Howe maybe he wants to rush.
Bournemouth wide man Antoine Semenyo is another name thrown into the mix as Newcastle look to address their right-back problem, despite Jacob Murphy’s impressive form of late. Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford was also mentioned as an option in that position.
The Magpies are reportedly in the best position to complete the signing of the AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomorialso, with a new face at centre-back needed in the January window. The Englishman is thought to want to return to Premier Leaguewho was previously at Chelsea.
A move for the Barcelona youngster Vitor Roque was also discussed, with the striker struggling to make a positive impression at the Catalan giants. However, it remains to be seen whether Newcastle will be able to get the transfer over the line.
Newcastle are showing renewed interest in the “extraordinary” ace
According to the new claim from Football Insider, Newcastle are now showing renewed interest in Burnley goalkeeper James Traffordwho wanted to sign him during last summer’s transfer window.
The young Englishman is envisioned as a replacement for current Magpies stopper Martin Dubravaka, who is set to leave this month, coming in and creating competition for Nick Pope. Magpies bosses have fresh confidence that a deal is possible this month after the failure of the summer window.
Trafford seems a genuinely strong target for Newcastle at the moment, and it makes perfect sense to swap Dubravka for him, before potentially usurping Nick Pope as first choice between the sticks over time.
He is a highly regarded goalkeeper who is already such an influential player, with Vincent Kompany praising him after the draw away to Brighton last season, saying: “His season was no different than everyone else on the team.
“He improved during the season, he showed good signs. He was more and more consistent and in the end at this level consistency is the key word. We have more and more players playing at a consistent level. In games like today, without someone having an outstanding performance, you never get results.”
At just 22, Trafford still has so many years left in him at the top level, so he’s a fantastic option for Newcastle and perhaps even England moving forward.

Burnley will obviously be desperate to keep hold of him until the end of the season as they push for promotion from the Championship to the Premier League, but if their player’s head turns, they could find it difficult to keep hold of him.
