The Palisades Fire in Los Angeles, California triggered mandatory evacuations as thick, dense smoke billowed over the region.
Officials say the fire spread from 20 hectares to more than 200 hectares in about 20 minutes after it was reported around 10:30 a.m. local time.
The growth was fueled by strong winds that put much of the state under a red flag warning.
