UEFA Request for an overview of the Law in which Julián álvarez saw a penalty kick
Uefa should talk to FIFA and IFAB to determine whether a rule that has seen the sentence Julian Alvarez against Real Madrid should be reviewed.
The incident caused many discussions, and partly resulted in Atletico Madrid crashed out of the League of Champions League on penalties.
Argentine striker Alvarez thought he had hit the ball twice – he was essentially hit by his standing foot – which is a violation of the law 14.1.
Judge Szymon Marciniak was informed of what happened from VAR and the penalty was discharged. Real Madrid continued to beat 4-2 to progress to the quarterfinals with Arsenal.

UEFA posts a clearer picture of the Alvarez incident
Uefa posted a statement this afternoon, who included a clearer Alvarez video touching the ball twice. The statement read: “Atlético de Madrid inquired with UEFA because of the incident, leading to the dismissal of the impact from the penalty kick Julián Alvarez took over at the end of yesterday’s Champions League match against Real Madrid.
“Although minimal, the player contacted the ball using a standing leg before hitting him. According to the current rule (laws of the game, law 14.1), Var had to call a referee who signaled that the goal should be disabled.
“Uefa will enter into discussions with FIFA and IFAB to determine if the rule should be viewed in cases where the double touch is obviously unintentionally.”
IFAB is the International Committee of the Football Federation – an organization that has set the rules for the game and in the end the finals will be open whether that particular law should change.
Atletico boss Simeone is not impressed
The Alvarez penalty dominated after the conversation after the match, and the head of Atletico Diego Simeone was not convinced that it was a real call.
“I just saw the pictures, the referee says Julián touches the ball with his foot, but the ball doesn’t move,” he said. “It’s debatable, whether it’s a goal or not. But I’m proud of my players, I’m honestly happy, because we competed in an exemplary way.
“When Julán hits [the penalty]The ball doesn’t even move. I imagine they called Var and saw that he had touched him. I want to believe he will see that he touched him. “
The athlete won 1-0 in the opening minute thanks to the goal of Conor Gallagher, but failed to find a second during a high energy game but low quality.
“Are you afraid of being punished?” 🤐

The Thibaut Courtois goalkeeper in Madrid thought that the right decision was made regarding Alvarez’s shot, and he and his teammates quickly set their judge on Marciniak.
“I felt he touched the ball twice and told the judge,” Belgian said. “It’s not easy to see.”
However, Simeone was impressed by questioning the integrity of the VAR.
“It is clear to Uefa. I am sick of this victim, I always cry for such things. Referees do not want to benefit from one team or the other in Spain or in Europe, because it was clear. With technology, they have clearly seen her in the room, they have a lot of cameras and a lot of pictures.”
