Wax fabric: from Indonesian inspiration to an African identity symbol

The wax fabric today is widely seen in West Africa, but its origin is significantly returned. Initially inspired by the Indonesian Batik, and the Europeans later returned and popularized it by various African states, becoming a symbol of identity and even protests. However, its history remains complex, with different opinions that are still surrounded by today. Musée de l’homme in Paris is currently showing an exhibition dedicated to this unique fabric.
