Pope Francis He responds well to treatment and has shown “gradual, slightly improvement” in recent days while remains in a hospital that has been recovering from double pneumonia, the Vatican said on Sunday.
“The night was quiet; the pope is resting,” the Vatican said in a statement.
Francis, 88, received in Rome Hospital February 14 after a one -week flank bronchitis worsened. The doctors first diagnosed the complex infection of the viral, bacterial and fungal respiratory tract and then the occurrence of pneumonia in both lungs.

This is the fourth Sunday in a row that the Pope will not appear for his weekly blessing, but the Vatican plans to distribute the message he would bring to him.
The pope’s condition remained stable, because for several days he had no fever and good level of oxygen in the blood, the doctors said. Doctors said his stability “as a consequence testifies to a good response to therapy.”
This is the first time the doctors have reported that Francis, who has a chronic lung disease and that part of one lung was removed when he was younger, responded well to the prescribed therapies since he had been admitted to the hospital more than three weeks ago.

But his forecast remains “guarded,” the doctors said, which means he is not yet out of danger.
Despite Francis’s absence, the Vatican’s daily operations continued with the celebrations of their sacred year, once a jubilee with every quarter, which brings pilgrims from all over the world to Rome. The Holy Year is celebrating volunteers this weekend, and many extend their pilgrimage to pray for Francisco outside the hospital.

Canadian Cardinal Michael Czerny will chair Holy Year of Mass Sunday for volunteers.
The Pope used high -kicks of extra oxygen to help him breathe during the day and at night the non -invasive mechanical ventilation mask.
