More skiers were reported to be trapped in Alaska after being abandoned in the avalanche, Alaska State Troopers said on Wednesday.
The number of skiers and their conditions were not immediately available.
The Slijnik happened late Tuesday afternoon near the Girdwood ski community, which is about 64 kilometers south of Anchorage, said the Associated Press, a spokesman for the Alaska State Troopers state.
“The soldiers received an avalanche report that caught several individuals yesterday afternoon who were helical near the western jaw of Rijeka 20 miles,” McDaniel said. “The company they skiing with an attempt to return the skiers but failed because of the depth of snow.”
The size of the avalanche and the depth of the snow was not immediately known.
He said the soldiers would try to reach the place on Wednesday, and maybe it would take an aircraft to get to the remote place well from the Seward highway.
Girdwood is the throne of Alaska skiing, and the home of the Alyska Hotel is at the foot of the Alyeska Mountain, where people ski or Snowboard. At the top of the mountain is a seven glacier restaurant, named after its view.
Every winter, 25 to 30 people die in an avalanche in the United States, according to the National avalanche center.
