Dozens of people in the Sudanese state of North Darfur are afraid of the dead after heavy shelling in a campsite for displaced people.
Paravial forces for fast support (RSF) attacked the full market in Abu Shouk, a camp on the outskirts of El-Fasher, about two hours on Tuesday night, a local official told the BBC.
The camp is home more than half a million displaced people, and the attack on its market is second in three days.
El-Fasher is the last capital in Darfur under military control and is under siege for almost a year.
The attack on Abu Shouk on Tuesday happened in the most prominent time of the day. The population of the camp are mostly Muslims, who observe the holy moon of Ramadan, and many were shopping on the market, preparing to quickly break their day.
The assessment was caused by several injuries, ranging from mild to severe, said Dr. Ibrahim Konyan, a doctor at El-Fasher’s last functional hospital, he told the BBC.
Abu Shouk also shelled the RSF on Sunday, in an attack that killed six civilians, local health volunteers said.
RSF did not comment on either Sunday or Tuesday.
Ever since it broke out in April 2023, the war killed tens of thousands of people, forced millions from its homes and left many facing hunger.
Both the RSF and the army were charged with committing crimes and RSF was charged with committing genocide in Darfur against non -Arab groups of the region.
The conflict divided the country, and the army was controlled north and east, while the RSF holds most of the Darfur region in the west and parts of the south.
In recent weeks, the army has withdrawn parts of the Cartum and the surrounding areas from the RSF.
