A Texas pizzeria is offering a tip to the highest bidder after a petty theft led to a second crime
AND Texas pizzerias an unfortunate petty theft has inadvertently revealed another victim with its well-intentioned social media post.
Stone Oven Pizza in Wichita Falls switched to Facebook when it the tip money was stolen and offered an auction to recoup missing employee dollars.
The teenagers accused of the crime left behind a cowboy hat, so the restaurant owners decided that it would only be appropriate to use the lost hat and recover the income.

“Last night our crew ran into an incident where some teenagers stole tips from the tip tray… However, luckily they left this hat behind… We’re not big fans of hats here, but we know what a wonderful community Wichita Falls is and we would like to open an auction… The highest bidder by Tuesday afternoon will win the prize of this authentic jicama-giga cowboy!” post said.
The company said all proceeds from the auction will be split evenly between the three employees who lost tips.
What the pizzeria didn’t expect was that the well-intentioned attempt would lead to the discovery of the real owner of the hat, and it wasn’t one of the teenagers.
An update to the original post showed that the same teenagers broke into a man’s home truck and stolen hat from him.

“Even though the owners of Stone Oven were willing to face this man in a head-to-head fight to defend our team’s wages… The team members themselves decided that this man’s head was indeed cold… we will return the property to its rightful owner… no worry employees received $50 bonuses for altruism and compassion,” the update said in part.
The the restaurant then left to brag about how proud they are of their city and the support they received after the theft.
