At least 41 road workers were trapped after a massive avalanche hit a remote border area in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand, the officials say.
Police spokesman IG Nilesh Anand Bharne told Anna news agency that 16 workers had been saved and moved to a military camp nearby.
The avalanche was hit by the Camp of Border Roads (BRO) at Mana in Uttarakrahand that shares a border with Tibet, the officials say.
The High Officer of the District, Sandeep Tiwari, told BBC Hindi that there was no information on whether there were deaths.
Chief Minister of Uttarakhanda Pushkar Singh Dhami confirmed on Xu that saving works were conducted by Indo-Tibetan border police, brother and other teams.
Ambulations and emergency teams have been sent, but treacherous conditions continue to represent the challenges for rescuers.
Colonel Ankur Mahajan, commander of the ship, told Hindustan Times reporters that those who were rescued received treatment, “but the scope of their injuries is not clear.”
Gaurav Kunwar, a former Mana Mana River Council, told BBC News that the Incident details were ticklish.
“No one is permanently living there. It is an area of migration and only workers working on border roads stay there in the winter. There is also a presence of the army. We heard that it was raining in the area for two days. The spatial workers were at the camp when Avalanca hit.”
Earlier on Friday, the Indian Meteorological Department warned of heavy rain and snow in northern India Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakrahand, as well as Jamma and Kashmir.
Orange warnings have also been released for snowfall in several Himachal Pradesh and Jamma and Kashmir district.
