Former Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Kristin Crowley began the appeal after the decision of Mayor Karen Bass to release her a week ago.
Her decision on the appeal comes after Bass decision has initiated criticism of city members of the Council and the public for what they say is a “wrong presentation of facts.”
Crowley announced an appeal to members of the City Council on Thursday.

Bass has announced that she has released Crowley after the devastated fire of Palisades and appointed former deputy Ronnie Villanuev, 41-year-old Lafd veteranas a temporary chief of fire. She said it was in the best interest in Los Angeles.

The United Firefighters from Los Angeles City of Local 112, a union representing the city firefighters and supporters Crowley, said in a Facebook post that it was amazing to schedule, with just a 24-hour notification, a “special meeting” to hear Crowley’s appeal.
“This is an example of why the public does not believe in the City Hall and the constant wrong steps that we have seen as our city leaders have done since the fires broke out on January 7th. The union said they believe that the reasons for being abolished were manufactured and, in reality, Crowley was fired because he told the truth.

Crowley’s appeal will require a vote of at least 10 of 15 members in her favor. It remains unclear how they will vote because four members of the Council stood behind Bas during a press conference as she announced the decision to remove Crowley.
Council man Bob Blumenfield believes that he is in the mayor’s right to hire and the fire he wants.
“Must have the full confidence of its general managers and its chiefs. If she lost that confidence, she has every right to change the head of the department” or the fire chief, he said earlier this week.
Los Angeles City Charter It enables the mayor the ability to remove most of the heads of the department, including the fire chief, without the approval of the Council.
The charter also gives the dismissed employee the right to appeal to the Council’s decision with the possibility of re -establishment.
