La Défense appeared in the late 1960s as the modernist center of skyscrapers and commercial infrastructure, with hundreds of thousands of people who work there every day. But when the Coid-19 pandemic hit, many of these employees began to work remotely. The neighborhood has since struggled to attract covered crowds, and the local job is suffering as a result.
