The New York prisoner dies in prison while an illegal strike by guards continues

Prisoner died ua New York Prison as guards in institutions throughout the state continues their strike, which is now in their second week.
Jonathon Grant, 61, died over a weekend at one of the prisoners where repair officers left work to strike. The troops of the National Guard were arranged by the Kathy Hochul government to fulfill during their absence in an effort to alleviate staff issues.
Grant was declared dead on Saturday after finding him in his cell at the Auburn Criminal Institution. He served a sentence of 34 to 40 years for rape and burglary.
It is not clear whether the prison staff played a role in Grant’s death. The way he died will determine the medical examiner.

The public veteran’s office who provided a legal approval advisor expressed concern that the strike could have influenced medical care for prisoners.

“The tension is being built. I’ve never seen her like this,” Waters said. “There is no programming, there are no religious services, you cannot send mail or get visitors. We are not used to being mutual from each other day by day.”
Waters, 37, said he expected the situation to get worse.
“They want the atmosphere to become violent to prove the point about the staff,” he said. “It’s like we’re caught in a crossfire between the Union and their attachments with Albany and administrators.”
Negotiations between state officials and the Association for the Benefactor Association for Remedial Service and the New York State Police, a union that represented the guards, began on Monday. Prison workers are looking for a better salary, better staff, improved safety measures and authorization to start using loneliness again as a disciplinary tool.
More than 100 repair officers and supporters protested on Monday near Coxsackie’s remedial seduction in Hudson Valley. Some wore inscriptions that said “Nys failed us” and “Wildcats”.

“No one has ever seen the amount of violence and disrespect for the safety of the officer, not to mention the fact that the staff is low for all the time, and the officers are leaning to work for 24 hours straight with threat to break up if you leave the prison,” Ventre said.
The attacks on the staff of the prison system jumped from 1,043 in 2019 to 1,938 in the first 11 months of 2024, according to state officials. In the meantime, the attacks on prisoners entered 1,267 in 2019 to 2,697 first 11 months of 2024.
