Tim David’s fireworks against Adelaide Strikers earn Hobart Hurricanes their 4th consecutive BBL win in 2024-25.

Hobart Hurricanes secured a comprehensive five-wicket win over Adelaide Strikers in match 24. Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 at Bellerive Oval. Chasing a challenging target of 187, the Hurricanes registered their fourth straight win of the season thanks to Tim David’s brilliant knock.

Adelaide Strikers set a competitive total

After he first chose the club, The Strikers made a stunning total of 186/5thanks to contributions from Chris Lynn (49 of 27) and Alex Ross (47 of 29). Lynn’s aggressive start included five fours and three sixes, while Ross anchored the middle over with six fours and a maximum. Ollie Pope chipped in with a steady 33 off 27, providing a solid platform for the lower order. Jamie Overton provided the late fireworks with a quick 27 not out off 18 balls.

The Hobart bowlers had a mixed result. Waqar Salamkheil was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2/22 in his two overs, while Riley Meredith and Billy Stanlake claimed a wicket each. Chris Jordan endured a difficult night, conceding 46 runs in his four overs, but managed to pick up the crucial wicket of Ross.

In reply, the Hurricanes got off to a flying start with Mitchell Owen playing a fiery knock of 37 in just 16 balls, hitting two fours and three sixes. Matthew Wade also contributed 27 from 18, setting the stage for the middle order. But the home side lost the wickets of Shai Hope (11) and Ben McDermott (17) cheaply.

It was Tim David who turned the game around with an explosive 62 not out from just 28 balls, including three fours and six big sixes. Coming in during a tense phase of the match, David dominated the bowlers with an incredible display of power hitting. His partnership with Nikhil Chaudhary (22 off 22) steadied the innings before unleashing a string of boundaries to take the game away from the Strikers. Jordan sealed the win with a boundary as the Hurricanes chased down the target in just 18.4 overs.

For the Strikers, Cameron Boyce stood out with figures of 2/23 from his four overs, while Lloyd Pope also picked up two wickets but proved costly, conceding 38 runs. Henry Thornton was the only other bowler to claim a wicket, but the rest of the attack struggled to contain the Hurricanes’ firepower.
