Carlo Ancelotti urged Luka Modric to offer another extension of the contract in Real Madrid, although the Maestro midfielder will celebrate his 40th birthday later this year.
Modric was key to Madrid on Sunday, beating Girona To get back on the right path in La Liga after he recently passed three games without winning.
After joining Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, the Croatian legend has collected nearly 600 appearances and the winner is four La Liga and six champions League titles.

Speaking after Sunday’s match, Ancelotti Modric described as a “gift to football” and made it clear that he wanted the player to apply another 2025/26 season, which would be 14 with the club.
“He should continue as much as he wants. He does what he does very well. We were lucky to have a legend with us. Football is a gift for his seriousness, quality and professionalism,” Ancelotti said.
The Italian coach is not a stranger to players who extend their careers deep in their thirties and even the past 40. His time in AC Milan coincided with the founding of the famous ‘Milan Laboratory’, with Cafu and Alessandro Costacurt among those who succeeded at a late age. Paolo Maldini is the most famous example, playing 25 seasons and eventually retired for a few weeks before he was 41 years old.
“I had another player who was 40, who was Maldini,” Ancelotti continued, comparing the legendary defender to the Blue for their dedication to their craft.
“The two of them can be compared in terms of what the footballer must be. They are fantastic examples. It is no coincidence that they have achieved 40 genetics, but also an obligation, an attitude.”
