San Diego Padres: Cole Paplham takes a line of 102 mph to the head


San Diego Padres The Pitcher Cole Paplham was at a 102 mph to head on Sunday in spring training against Los Angeles Dodgers.

The incident happened at the bottom of the eighth inning. Paplham threw the terrain to Dodgers’ striker Aaron Brachou by number 2-0. Bracho returned the terrain directly to Paplham. He went down a few minutes before heading to the golf course and removed the field.

Padres manager Mike Shildt said Paplham “seemed awake” as he was trying to shake the terrifying incident.

“Our prayers are with him,” Shildt said, via mlb.com. “He was aware, he seemed awake, he knew where he was. But obviously a scary thing … He was obviously in some pain, and obviously when something like that happened, he crumpled a little.”

Paplham has been in the smaller Padres league system since 2023. Played a collegial ball at the University of New Orleans and then participated in MLB Draft League For Mahoning Valley Scrappers.

He moved from Single to a double level of smaller leagues. He had a 3,82 era and 11 shots in eight appearances in 2024.

Paperham incident followed days after Dodgers’s Bobby Miller was hit in the face a lineage drive.

Miller is still in the earthquake protocol while recovering from the incident.
