Germany: CDU leads early results, far right AFD has second place, show exit polls

The German conservative opposition has become a winning Sunday parliamentary election, according to exit polls, which gave Friedrich Merz a significant victory in his efforts to inherit Social Democrat Olaf Scholz as the next leader of the largest economy in Europe. Merz’s CDU/CSU Blok secured first place with 28.5% of the vote, followed by the final right alternative to Germany (AFD) with 20%, which is a record result for the party, according to the ZDF public television presenter. Scholz-is SPD, on the other hand, received 16.5% of the vote, marking his worst result, according to projections.
