Apple withdraws its safest storage service in the UK cloud after the British government ordered the iPhone manufacturer to approve the secret access to customers data.
“Apple can no longer offer advanced data protection (ADP) in the United Kingdom to new users, and current UK users will eventually have to prevent this security feature,” the US Great Technology Company said on Friday.
Last month, Apple received a “technical ability notification” under the Law on Investigation Authority in the UK, people who were familiar with this issue, FT said at the time.
The request for so -called “backdoor” user data would allow the law and security services to touch the iPhone backups and other cloud information that is otherwise inaccessible, even to Apple itself.
The law, which is criticized by the “Snooper Charter”, has extraterritorial powers, which means that the British enforcement of the law could access the encrypted data of Apple customers anywhere in the world, including the US.
