Google He will start using artificial intelligence to determine if users are suitable for his products, the company announced on Wednesday.
Google has announced a new technique to determine the age groups of users as part of a blog focused on “new digital protection for children, teenagers and parents”. Automation will be used on Google Products, including YouTube, a spokesman confirmed. Google has billions of users in all its properties, and users marked as under 18 have restrictions on some Google services.
“This year we will start testing an age assessment model in the US in the US,” wrote Jenn Fitzpatrick, SVP Google’s “Core” Technology Team, in blog blog. The basic unit is responsible for the construction of the technical foundation behind the leading products of the company and to protect the user’s internet security.
“This model helps us evaluate whether the user is over or under the age of 18 so we can apply protection to provide more experiences suitable for age,” Fitzpatrick wrote.
The last move ai comes as legislators pressure Internet platforms to create multiple children’s safety provisions. The company said it would eventually bring its age assessments to AI in several countries. Meta took out similar features used by AI to determine that someone can lie about their age in September.
Google and others in the technological industry relied on AI for various tasks and products. Using AI for content related to age represents the latest AI front for Google.
The new initiative of Google’s “Core” team comes despite reorganizing the company last year, releasing hundreds of employees and moving some roles to India and Mexico, CNBC reported at that time.
