The family of a football player killed in a terrorist attack in New Orleans shares a message of faith and forgiveness
Aunt from Terrorist attack in New Orleans victim Martin “Tiger” Bech, a former running back on Princeton University’s All-Ivy League football team, said faith is guiding the family through the devastating loss.
“It’s really amazing. You know, as devastating as this is, God is so present,” Cheri Bech said “Fox & Friends First” Friday.
Tiger, 27, was visiting his home state of Louisiana to fish and hunt with college friends when a truck driver plowed into traffic at Canal and Bourbon streets early on New Year’s Day, killing at least 14 people.
Cheri told Fox News producers before the interview that Tiger’s mother felt like he was saying goodbye weeks before the tragedy.
“I get goosebumps talking about it,” remarked co-host Ashley Strohmier.
Cheri described how their faith in God was the backbone her family’s path of grief.
“On New Year’s Eve, we found out about the news about Tiger. My daughters and I were sitting at the table, and one of my daughters looked at me and said: ‘Mom, you know, someone killed my cousin. And I forgive him,'” she revealed. .
“By our faith in Jesus we can forgive such a heinous crime against innocent people.”

Cheri called Tiger an “amazing” son, sibling and cousin, supporting her younger brother Jack’s TCU football career as he prepares for the 2025 NFL Draft.
“Tiger was working in New York. He worked all week to catch the last flight on Friday night to get here at 1:30 in the morning, he woke up early and was the first one out watching Jack,” she said.
“Jack knows Tiger will be there with him [at the draft]. We’re all strong believers in Jesus and just holding Jesus’ hand as we go through this difficult journey.”
In a post on social media, Jack wrote: “Love you always bro! You inspired me every day now you can be with me at all times,” he said. “I got this family T, don’t worry. This is for us.”

Cheri then shared a key Bible verse that connected her to Jesus during her family’s difficult journey.
“This verse that keeps coming up, because like I said, God keeps showing up in just such amazing ways. And that’s Isaiah 41:10. ‘Fear not, for I am with you. Do not be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you with my victorious right hand,’ Cheri quoted.
She concluded by sharing a faith-filled message families of other victims attacks.
“I want everyone to know that all the Bechs are praying for all the other families of the victims. You know, it’s a tough road, but together we can get through it. And we have a huge core family.”
