More than 3,000 artists have written in protest against Christie’s art art plans created by artificial intelligence in the last return of the creative industry against the threat represented by the generative AI models.
In a letter to the Aukciah House, artists have expressed “serious concern” that many artistic works that are sold were created using AI models that were known to have been trained to work protected by copyright without permission.
Although many in the creative industry from music to film, media and art do not have a complaint with the development of AI models – and often use such tools in their work – they are concerned that many of the most popular do not pay for copyright materials. They can be used to train AI models that can replicate or even replace the original work.
“These models and companies that stand behind them exploit human artists, using their work without approval or payment to build commercial AI products that compete with them,” the letter said. “Your support from these models and people who use them, reward and further stimulate the mass theft of AI companies in the work of human artists.”
Christie’s inaugagul aa art, called Augmented Intelligence, claims that the first sale of artificial intelligence is in the main auction house with the works of artists using AI models.

In response to the letter, Christie said that “artists represented in this sale have strong, existing multidisciplinary artistic practices, some recognized in leading museum collections. Works on this auction use artificial intelligence to improve their bodies of work.”
Musician and artist Ed Newton-Rex, one of the signatories of the letter, said that AI companies, however, use the work of other artists without approval or payment.
“I don’t blame the artists who used them. But Christie sold these works for dozens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars, it implied the outrage of exploitation behind AI products involved. I find it quite sick at a time when so many artists see their lives destroyed with the same products. “
The auction features a complex discussion in the creative industry around AI, and the artists are divided around the use of AI and whether technology will become a key tool in the creative process. Other parts of the artistic community supported the sale and some even took the petition and created parts of digital arts using words and paintings.
The technology and art argument is the latest Flash point on the eve of the conclusion of the AI and creative industry counseling by the British Government.
According to the suggestions, the Government in the UK would offer exemption to the author’s rights laws, allowing technological companies to use material in ranging from music and books to media and photographs for training the AI model, unless the right -wing holder complains in the “Light Retention System”.
These plans have alarmed companies throughout music, creating films, arts and media industries with respect to the “exclusion system”, the police could be expensive and difficult.
