Luke Humphries insists that Luke Littler is still a player who will win the darts, and called a teenage exciting match against Michael Van Gerwen “one of the best games in the Premier League.

“He’s by far one of the biggest players I’ve seen in my career. I don’t respect myself, but I think he’s the best player in the world.
“If he comes out, I’m the one who won, but he is definitely the man who won. The darts play with such a great pace. He reduced it to treble and couples.
“That happened to me last year. There’s a target on your back, everyone wants to beat you. Average you over 100 and people beat you.
“He’s still the best player in the world. But for me I know I can still play in a decent standard and still win things.”
Humphries and Littler mostly dominated in 2024, winning six major PDC titles between them.
The couple sits at the top of a row of merit, with Van Gerwen in the third, but does not win the title last year.
“Luke did the best and he was just a little unhappy – he has a target on his back, which is a world champion,” Humphrieries later in the press.
“Everyone wants to beat him and that will happen, you know that this will happen during his career, but you know, for me, I always know that I can compete with the best and that you do not get to the number one for nothing.

Humphories’ victory in the opening evening almost overshadowed the epic victory Van Gerwen 6-5 quarterfinals over Littler in Belfast.

“He makes you want to be better and is a fantastic talent, he’ll just be so great in the next 20 years and it’s up to me to be better to try to challenge him.”

Humphories lost to Littler in last year’s Premier League final and hopes to take one step better this year.
The 29-year-old is aware that another 15 weeks of action comes before the playoffs, where the first four in the League fights for the title, and he thinks this year’s field is one of the most difficult ever.
“I think this is the most difficult premier league for a long time. A night like this may not happen as much as you want,” he said.
“Nathan [Aspinall] Playing better, [Gerwyn] Price and slave [Cross] Play better and Chris Dobey is in shape. Last year, Rob, Gezzy and Peter Wright were not in shape.
“I think PDC has made the right call. The right players are inside. I think it will be difficult. It will all cut it all and change it.”
