A student at the Central Sweden Education Center recalled that she and others tried to help one of the victims of what would be shown to be the worst school shooting that ever happened in Sweden.
“The guy beside me was shot in my shoulder. He was bleeding a lot. When I looked behind me, I saw three people on the bleeding floor,” said Marwa, who just gave her name, she told the TV4 Sweden.
Eleven people died after the Risberg school at the Orebro school on Tuesday, including a suspect’s attacker. Police say the number of injuries remains unclear.
What is also not yet known is the motive of the attack, but the police said that “everything indicates” that it is not ideological.
Marwa said that she and another friend tried to help the injured person wrapping the scarf on the man’s shoulder “so as not to bleed so much.”
“Everyone was so shocked.”
Teacher Lena Warenmark recalled that she had heard about 10 gunshots near her study, saying a Swedish public radio that she had heard several bangs in a short sequence, followed by a short break and then a few more.
Mrs. Warenmark said she was closed to a studio for more than an hour.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristesson called the “worst mass shooting in Swedish history” and said it was difficult to understand the size of what happened.
Police said they had heard reports on shooting at the Adult Educational Center in Orebro, 200 KM (124 miles) west of Stockholm’s capital, at 12:33 local time (11:44 GMT).
The facility sits in a campus at the house of other schools. These centers are primarily attended by people who have not finished elementary or high school.
Police warned earlier that the number of deaths could continue to grow because several people were injured.
But El Mamova, the cousin of a man believed to have studied at the school at the time of the attack, set himself outside the local hospital, waiting to hear in the state of his relatives.
“He doesn’t really feel very good,” Mr. Mrkad told Reuters news agency. He said his cousin also knew someone at school, and when she called her friend earlier, “she fell to the ground because she cried so much.”
“She thought what she saw was so awful. She only saw people lying on the floor, injured and blood everywhere,” said the Lord Majkad, describing the scene that witnessed his cousin.
Such attacks in Sweden are very rare. Although in Sweden before there were school shootings, they were not of this size.
Last September was a school that shot south of Stockholm, when it was suspected that the 15-year-old was wounded by a classmate-or one of the attack with a Swedish problem of gang violence.
