Simona Halep announced retirement after suffered a huge defeat in her first match in 2025.
Former world no. 1 late started the season in her home event, Transylvania Open, Tuesday, in Romania, after he was handed a savage ticket.
But the double Grand Slam champion won in just two games, as Italian Lucia Bronzetti attacked the 6-1 6-1 victory in just 59 minutes.

“I’ve always been realistic with myself and my body.
“Where I was probably, it is very difficult to get there and I know what it means to come there. Because of that, I wanted to come here in Cluj today to play in front of you and say goodbye.
“Although my performance was not very good, it was still my soul and I am very pleased to come, and I will wonder if I will come back. But for now it’s the last time I’ve been playing here and I don’t want to cry.
“That’s a nice thing. I became the world no.
“I will get here to tennis, which I can often and of course continue to play – but to be competitive, it takes a lot more and this moment is no longer.”
Halep, who received a four -year doping ban that was reduced to nine months due to a polluted supplement, last competed at WTA Tour in October in Hong Kong.
The 33-year-old also played in an exhibition event in Abu Dabi in December, but then withdrew from qualifying for the Australian Open, citing knee and shoulder pain.
