BELLINZONA, Switzerland (Reuters) – Swiss judges on Friday will make a verdict on a corruption trial involving traders Rob Trafigur and three other defendants who allegedly paid a bribe to Angola’s oil official in exchange for oil contracts.

The case is for the first time in Switzerland that the company has been accused in its highest court corrupting foreign official and a very rare case around the world of the former top -quality director of a trading company that landed in the dock.

Prosecutors claimed that Traffigu and others paid a bribe of more than $ 5 million via a network of intermediaries with Angolan an official to win oil contracts from 2009-2011.

They are looking for a total of more than $ 156 million fines and a traphic fee and a four -year prison sentence of former Mike Wainwright operating director.

Trafigur, who sent his current member of the Committee Pierre Lorinet to the issues of the field prosecutor during the trial in December, said that controls against the crime and anti -corruption and the compliance program at the time at that time at his home company met the legal requirements and good practice of standards.

Wainwright rejected all the allegations against him, and his lawyers say he is convinced that the case will be rejected. The lawyers of two other defendants, who have not appointed Reuters for restriction on the Swiss privacy rules, deny allegations.

During the trial in the southern city of Belinson, the court was shown on a dozen pages of documents, memorandum, e -mail and message as supporting evidence.

Some include a former employee of the traphigure, which the indictment says is the nickname “a gentleman who is not in harmony”, the founder of the late Profugure Claud Dauphin because he did things forbidden in the group. Dauphin’s family says he unjustly singled out.

Any punishment can complain to the court, which would be waiting for any prison sentence to the outcome.
