NTSB that explored the “sudden aircraft movement” on the United Airlines flight that injured dozens
The National Transport Safety Committee is investigating after Flight United Airlines experienced a “sudden aircraft movement”, leaving dozens of passengers and crews injured, including six people who were hospitalized.
United Airlines Flight 613 flew from Lagos, Nigeria to the Washington Dulles International Airport, on Friday, when the incident happened, NTSB said on social media. The aircraft, Boeing 787-800, flew in the Côte D’Avoire airspace when he experienced what United and NTSB called the “sudden aircraft movement.” The flight then returned to Lagos, landing around 3:20 in local time.
At the Lagos Muhammad International Airport, the plane was filled with medical responses, fire department and aviation security, Federal Airport of Nigeria said in a statement. The agency said that the respondents were on standby only four minutes after the flight pilot reported on distress. The respondents were on the spot before the plane landed, According to Faan.
Of the 245 passengers on board, 31 had injuries. Four passengers “sustained serious injuries,” Nigerian officials said and transported to a regional hospital. Another 27 passengers had fewer injuries and was treated in clinics. There were also eight flight attendants and three pilots. Two crew members were hospitalized, and five more reported minor injuries, but Faan did not specify what role these crew members played.
The aircraft itself was not damaged in the incident, Faan said.
NTSB said the preliminary report on its investigation will be available online in about 30 days.
