Denmark for pumping $ 2 billion in Arctic security as Trump’s Eyes Greenland | Military news

Copenhagen, increasing the consumption of defense and conversation with the Allies because it resists the American demand for a strategic island.

Denmark revealed plans to increase its military presence in the Arctic and North Atlantic region.

Copenhagen announced on Monday that he would pump up an additional 14.6 billion of Danish crowns ($ 2.05 billion) in safety. The announcement arrived because the European country resists the demands of the President of the United States Donald Trump to hand over control over Greenland.

“There are serious challenges in connection with security and defense in the Arctic and Northern Atlantic,” said the Danish Minister of Defense Troeels Lund Poulsen in a statement of the Danish Defense Minister.

His announcement arrived as Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederixen is preparing to meet with the leaders of France, Germany and NATO this week to increase “European unity” in Greenland.

“Europe faces a serious situation. With the war on the continent and the shifts in geopolitical reality. At such moments, Unity is crucial,” Frederixen said in a statement.

“Denmark is a small country with strong allies. And this is part of a strong European community in which we can face the challenges we face together,” Frederixen said.

A respected target

The Danish semi -Autonic territory of Greenland, which boasts significant mineral resources, has become a valued target, with the melting of ice in the Arctic by opening new routes of the ship and increasing its strategic value.

Earlier this month, Trump said Greenland is vital to American security and Denmark must give up controls.

The US army has a permanent presence in Pituffik Space Base in northwestern Greenland, a strategic place for its early warning system on Balistic rockets, since the shortest route from Europe to North America passed the island.

Denmark, although responsible for Greenland’s safety and defense, has limited military skills on a huge island, and is widely considered a security black hole.

Close cooperation

As part of the package, Denmark will receive three new ships in Arctic waters around Greenland, more long drones and increased satellite capacity.

Currently, Danish capacities include four agents of inspection vessels, an aircraft of the Challenger -A 12 Patrol Patrol Patrole, all in charge of the surveillance of the areas four times larger than France.

After more than a decade of drastic decrease in defense costs, Denmark awarded 190 billion of the Danish Crown ($ 26 billion) last year for its army during the 10-year period, part of which was now assigned to the Arctic.

The Ministry of Defense in Copenhagen announced that the Government agreed on a new package with a wide majority of parliamentary parties and a narrow cooperation with the Governments of the Fari Islands and Greenland.

Three governments also agreed to negotiate the second agreement on deterrent and defended by the summer.
