WASHINGTON (Reuters) – US President Donald Trump on Sunday issued an executive order in which a audit council for evaluating the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) was established, stopping current actions to close or reshape the leading agency for disaster.
The command of the call to establish a council made by relevant federal leaders and “distinguished individuals” selected by Trump from the external government. Trump invited the Council to hold his first public meeting within 90 days and submitted a report within 180 days from the first meeting.
Trump has raised the idea of closing FEMA during a traveling on Friday to the disaster areas in North Carolina and California, promising to sign an executive order for overhaul or removal of the agency.
The Republican president accused Fema of having knocked efforts to help in an emergency and said that he preferred to get the states of the states of the states of having disasters themselves.
In his executive order, Trump said that there are “serious concerns” of political bias in FEMA -II that agency funds were used for programs related to incoming migrants.
FEMA brings staff for emergency, supplies and equipment for areas to start recovering from natural disasters. Financing for the agency has increased in recent years as extreme weather has increased the demand for its services.
Cam Hamilton, acting of the head of FEMA, wrote on Friday, convincing them that the continuation of the existence of an agency is vital for efforts in the catastrophe in the country.
“FEMA is a critical agency that performs an essential mission in support of our national security,” he wrote.
The agency struggled with misinformation last year, including answers to Florida and North Carolina’s disasters.
