Congo interrupts relationships with Rwanda, accusing her of supporting the M23 rebels
Congo interrupted all diplomatic ties with Rwanda and the South African Republic, and on Saturday announced that nine of his peacekeepers had been killed in a wave of fighting with rebels supporting Rwanda in minerals rich in eastern Congo.
The three -year M23 rebellion in Eastern Congo was intensified in January with rebels who took control of major territory than ever before, which made the united nations alert to the risk of a wider regional war.
Congo and his allies said on Saturday that they had suppressed the M23 fighters, who had progressed towards the capital of the Province of Gomi. The sound of a nearby heavy bombing was shaken by the city in the early morning hours on Saturday.
Congo, UN and others accuse neighboring Rwand of scattering conflicts to their own soldiers and weapons. Rwanda denied it, but the Kong’s army said on Saturday that Ruandic snipers were responsible for killing the North Kiva military governor on the first line this week.
Congo reprimanded his graduates from Rwanda and asked the Rwandan authorities to interrupt diplomatic and consular activities in the Congenian capital within 48 hours, according to a letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Rwanda Embassy of January 24.
The Ministry’s representative said on Saturday that the letter represents the “most serious form of diplomatic breakdown”.
The Rwande authorities were not immediately available for comment because of the late hour.
Sacrifice of peacekeeping forces
In increased international concerns, the UN Security Council will meet on Sunday to discuss the crisis, diplomats said. It was previously planned to meet on Monday.
In the fierce struggles of recent days, two South Africans were killed in a UN peacekeeping mission and seven others in the forces of the South African regional block in Congo, South African national defense forces said on Saturday.
“The members boldly fought to prevent the rebels from continuing to the crowd, which was their intention,” it was said.
Congoon troops and Allied forces suppressed the rebels, but the fights are underway throughout the Conflict zone, said the spokesman for the Congenian army Sylvain Ekenge at the briefing for journalists, adding that the advancement in the neighboring province of South Kiva was also stopped.
The situation seemed peaceful in the crowd during the day on Saturday, and people were cautious about their jobs in the midst of the great police presence, Reuters reporters said.
The United Nations said they began to temporarily move their irrelevant staff from Goma due to the aggravated security situation.
Eskallation and threatening threat to the crowd, a home for more than one million people, have encouraged re -calls to Rwanda to withdraw.
“Rwanda must stop supporting the M23 and withdrawing,” the European Union said on Saturday in a statement.
The M23 briefly managed to take over Gom during the previous rebellion in 2012, which made the international donors interrupt the help of Rwanda. Even then, the rebels did not hold as much as they are now.
Insecurity also deepened the already difficult humanitarian situation in the eastern provinces, with 400,000 people forced to leave their homes this year, according to the UN refugee agency.
“The situation faced by the Gome civilians are becoming more dangerous, and humanitarian needs are huge,” Human Rights Watch said on Saturday.
