Player ratings as Haaland inspires champions to comeback wins
Manchester City secured a much-needed 3-1 win at home to Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.
Wounded by a collapse in the second half against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night, City fell into an early deficit in front of their own fans. Debutant Abdukodir Khusanov’s weak back pass found a hungry and rested Chelsea side as Noni Madueke fired the Blues in front after just three minutes.
Pep GuardiolaThe home side responded on the stroke of half-time, equalizing with Josko Guardiola’s ruthless drive forward following a penetrating dart from his opposite-back Matheus Nunes.
City took the lead through that famous figure Erling Haaland. Latching on to Ederson’s long pass forward – a common theme of the second half – City’s number nine punished Roberto Sanchez’s poor positioning, slotting past the Chelsea keeper from the right corner of the box in the 68th minute.
Haaland collected another direct ball forward in the closing stages of the game, leading Phil Foden away to three points with Citythird goal of the afternoon.
