Barboza Jr. in enemy territory: can he beat Catterall and the judges?

Jack Catterall posted a clip on Xu, mocking his reputation as a boring fighter ahead of his 12-round championship bout against #1 Arnold Barboza Jr. February 15 at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, England.

Catterall accepts the criticism

Catterall (30-1, 13 KOs) accepts his “boring” identity, mock it, not fight it by denying what everyone can see. Some fans see him as poor Shakur Stevenson once you remove hand speed, cat reflexes and track star mobility. With a cup of good coffee in your body, watching Catterall’s fight is bearable.

Jack’s annoying tactics:

  • Constant posture
  • Movement
  • Excessive feints
  • Low performance

Jack seems to be trying to copy Shakur’s fighting style, making him eye poison. I’m surprised that DAZN put this fight as a main event on one of their broadcasts because this match will not resonate with American fans, who have a high taste for quality fights. Americans don’t like to be bored.

Barboza easily wins this fight on paper, being the better talent than Catterall with superior skills, striking and mobility. Whatever you want, he has it. However, with this fight taking place in Manchester, England, that puts Barboza Jr’s back against the wall, and he may have to really turn on Catterall to get the win. It is understood that Catterall will use his typical tactics to make the competition invisible to the fans.

Barboza’s Best wins

– Jose Ramirez
– Danielito Zorrilla
– Antonio Moran
– Alex Saucedo
– Sean McComb
– Jose Pedraza

Barboza (31-0, 11 KOs) and Catterall will fight for the vacant WBO 140 lb interim title in a bout that will be shown live on DAZN.

The winner of this bout will be in line to challenge the reluctant WBO champion, Teofimo Lopez, who has shown no interest in fighting either of these guys. Lopez has been sitting on his WBO title for two years, voluntarily defending to win the belt in 2023. It will be interesting to see if Teo vacates or faces the winner of Catterall-Barboza Jr.
