The La Liga giants have joined Dortmund in the race for Oleksandr Zinchenko

Atletico Madrid joined the race for sign Arsenal full-back Oleksandr Zinchenko, report claims.

Zinchenko’s future at Arsenal was in doubt following the arrival of Riccardo Calafiori in the summer, and injury recently saw him drop down the pecking order as teenage star Myles Lewis-Skelly took over the position.

His situation is he aroused the interest of Borussia Dortmundbut Florian Plettenberg notes that the Bundesliga players are not alone in the pursuit, as Atletico have opened negotiations on a winter transfer to Spain.

Atletico is happy about the match Arsenalrequires a permanent transfer, immediately or in the form of a loan with a mandatory redemption clause.

The Gunners value Zinchenko, who is said to be keen to leave in search of regular playing time, at around €20m (£16.8m) plus bonuses. That package is believed to be too expensive for Dortmund, who have fallen behind in the race for his signature. Chelsea’s out-of-favour defender Ben Chilwell is an alternative.

Selling Zinchenko would help Arsenal’s search for a new striker before the January transfer window closes, with the manager Mikel Arteta admits his side “obviously” needs more support at the top.
