Haney’s Quest for Greatness – Boxing News 24
Devin Haney called himself a “victim” in today’s interview, spending a lot of time talking about his fight against Ryan Garcia, saying he was “cheated” because of his positive PED test.
Haney sounded like he was trying to use Ryan’s positive test to explain away his loss to make fans believe it was the reason he was beaten last April.
It seemed like Devin was trying to cover up his loss to erase it from the minds of fans, who sympathized with his “victim” of the cheating argument. He better move on and focus on the fight instead of continuing to talk about the PED angle. Fans see it as Haney playing the victim, trying to get out of taking the blame for not fighting Ryan better.
Haney’s Quest for Greatness
Haney says he wants to show the boxing world “how great he is,” which is funny because he was never considered “great” even before his loss to Garcia. Devin’s win over Vasiliy Lomachenko was controversial in the eyes of many fans, who saw it as a robbery. Haney looked just as bad, as he staggered multiple times in his fight against 35-year-old Jorge Linares on May 29, 2021.
Devin’s career best wins:
– Regis Prograis: 35
– George Kambosos Jr. x 2
– Jorge Linares: 35
– Vasily Lomachenko: *controversial
– Joseph Diaz
If you remove Haney’s questionable win over Lomachenko, his resume is paper thin, with no quality wins. You can’t count on Kambosos as quality because he was just a regular fighter until he pulled off a loss against Teofimo Lopez.
Kambosos’ record is 1-3 in his last four fights. He should be 0-4 as his only win in the last three years was a controversial 12-round majority decision against Maxi Hughes.
“I want to continue to show the world how great I am and turn unbelievers into believers,” Devin Haney told The Ring Magazine Podcast. “They want to see if I’m the same. After being cheated on, there are question marks.
“They want to see if I’m the same Devin or a better Devin. He [Ryan] it also has question marks. The world wants to see if he’s the same without PEDs. Just from my experience, being a victim of fraud, knowing how important it is to be in that ring and be clean to be on a level playing field.
“I want to be an advocate for clean athletes in general, especially in boxing. We’re in there and we’re getting punished. What better time [to take a stand] when you see a guy [Ryan Garcia] cheat and get suspended. This is the greatest time in boxing. The whole world saw it. I think there’s a better time than now,” Haney said.
