ICC has officially declared Jasprit Bumrah as the first bowler in the history of India
Indian cricket team manager Jasprit Bumrah has achieved a great feat in the history of Indian cricket. He became the first bowler from his country to cross 904 rating points in the ICC rankings for bowlers in the longest format of the game.
Jasprit Bumrah surpassed Ravichandran Ashwin’s tally of 904 rating points, which the off-spinner achieved in December 2016, to become the highest-ranked Indian bowler in the history of the ICC rankings. However, now the prime pacer has surpassed him.
Jasprit Bumrah did his best with the ball at the MCG
Jasprit Bumrah achieved the feat after an incredible effort with the ball during the recently concluded fourth test against the Australian national cricket team. The match between the two teams was held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne and saw the hosts win by a margin of 184 runs.
Jasprit Bumrah was exceptionally the best with the ball in the match. Although the fast bowler went for a few runs in the first innings, he made sure he picked wickets and ended up taking four wickets to help his side get wickets at a crucial stage of the match.
Jasprit Bumrah did his best with the ball in the second innings when he picked another five-wicket haul to add to his tally of wickets in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The fast bowler has taken 30 wickets in the series and with one more match to go, he is expected to take a few more wickets.
Jasprit Bumrah’s 907 Test rating points is joint 17th on the all-time list – with England’s Derek Underwood. Based on his incredible effort with the ball in the 2024 Tests, the fast bowler has been nominated for the ICC Cricketer of the Year and the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year.
Pat Cummins becomes No. 3 ranked bowler in Test cricket and No. 3 ranked Test all-rounder
Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, Australian national cricket team captain Pat Cummins jumped by 15 points after picking 6 wickets in the Boxing Day Test. He is now No. 3 in the Test cricket bowler rankings and has also risen to third in the Test All-Rounder Rankings.
Marco Jansen moved up six places to fifth in the bowling rankings. He picked a wicket in the test against Pakistan and it was the first time in his career that he crossed 800 points.
As for the ICC Test rankings for batsmen, Aiden Markram is back in the top 20 batsmen in the world after his 89 in the first Test against Pakistan. While Indian national cricket team player Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 84 runs in two innings each, also made gains.
Yashasvi Jaiswal achieves a career-best ranking of 4th

Afghanistan batsmen Rahmat Shah (up 21 places to 52) and Hashmatullah Shahidi (up 25 places to an even 57), who surpassed the highest Test scores for Afghanistan with their double hundreds, also progressed after an incredible effort with the bat in the series against Zimbabwe.
