Chris Wood: The Nottingham Forest forward has signed a two-year contract with the Premier League club | Football news
Chris Wood has signed a new two-year contract with Nottingham Forest.
Wood has scored 14 goals in 22 Premier League games this season, helping lift Nottingham Forest to third in the table.
The New Zealand international was out of contract at the end of the season, but he has now followed centre-back Murillo and committed his future to Nottingham Forest.
“You can see the dream and the ambition of this club,” Wood said Sky Sports News.
“We had a great start to the season, now in the middle. We still have a lot to achieve and strive for.
“But I think this club, the ownership, the staff, the players and the fans, have a lot to achieve and grow into a great club again.
“I am full of confidence and a lot of faith has been instilled in me from the manager to my teammates.
“It’s the biggest confidence boost for a striker [to score goals]. You still have to work hard for the team and make sure your other team-mates are doing well at the same time, but it’s a big confidence boost when you’re scoring goals.”
Nuno delighted with Murillo’s new contract
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s trip to Bournemouth, Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo said he was delighted to count on Murillo going forward after the Brazilian penned a contract until 2029.
“I think he is a player with immense talent,” Nuno said.
“He can improve immensely because of his age. I think he joined us last season and the improvement is there.
“I think as long as he’s healthy and available he’ll be great.
“It’s good for us. Basically, it’s good for us that our players who are here are happy, motivated and committed.
“There is no doubt. There is not a player in our team who does not have this feeling of improvement, commit to a good competition. Murillo is just another one.
“He’s just another one. He’s not assigned to anybody. The core of the team is what it is and they have to be happy, play well and compete well.
“That’s what we want. Our priority is the players who are here. These are the ones who are getting good results and want to go and try to compete as best as we can.”
