Pro-lifers attack Fetterman for opposing ‘Live Birth Abortion Survivors Protection Act’: ‘infanticide’
Sen. John FettermanD-Pa., and all other Senate Democrats blocked the “Abortion Live Birth Survivors Protection Act” from advancing in the House on Wednesday.
The measure would require health care workers to try to save a newborn’s life during an abortion attemptand ensure that the infant is hospitalized.
“I have always stood by Roe and a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions. Criminalizing those choices is absurd. Any bill that does that, including the Birth Survivor Protection Act, is a NO from me,” Fetterman said in a post on X.

In party votes 52-47, 52 Republicans voted to continuewhile 45 Democrats and two independent senators who joined the Democratic caucus in the Senate voted to block the bill from moving to a vote.
The text of the measure stipulates that health care providers present when a child is born alive in an attempted abortion must “exhibit the same level of professional training, care and diligence for preserving the life and health of the child as a reasonably diligent and conscientious health worker would provide to any other child born alive in same gestational age” and then “ensured that the live-born child was immediately transported and admitted to the hospital.”
The measure expressly excludes criminal prosecution of the child’s mother.
“The mother of a live birth child described in subsection (a) may not be prosecuted for a violation of this section, an attempted violation of this section, a conspiracy to violate this section, or an offense under section 3 or 4 of this title based on such violation,” the bill reads. .
Pro-lifers condemned Fetterman’s stance.
“You just voted against medical care for a crying infant, begging for help, fighting to survive after a botched abortion. You believed the leftist lie that killing babies – in this case a now BORN baby fighting for its life – is ever acceptable. Pure evil,” Lila Rose, president and founder of Live Action, tweeted.

Katie Glenn Daniel, director of legal affairs and policy advisor for Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, wrote in response to Fetterman’s post: “Dude, it’s literally called the Abortion Protection Act. A baby is born, breathing and squirm, and you voted to deny her the life-sustaining health care she would have been entitled to had she been born under any other circumstances.”
